KUCHING: Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture and Kraftangan of Malaysia will continue to provide programmes to bring up and empower the craft entrepreneur community in country including ethnic groups in Sarawak and Sabah.

This was announced by Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister, Datuk Mohammadin Ketapi who said that Sarawak has recorded RM24.2 million in craft products sales from January to September in 2019.

He added that at the national level, craft products sales totalled RM370 million from about 5,737 entrepreneurs from January to September, with Sabah craft products sales recording RM37.1 million.

“I see the craft products sales from Sabah and Sarawak, as well as the involvement of about 3,070 entrepreneurs from both states, as something to be proud of.

“As a whole, the performance of Malaysian handicrafts is extremely encouraging and indirectly, this acquisition responds the government’s call for the Shared Prosperity Vision to be shared to all layers of the community in Malaysia,” Datuk Mohammadin said in his speech at the Borneo Craft Textile Gala Dinner on October 29 where he added that the government would continue to support craft entrepreneurs in the nation.

The function was graced by His Right Honourable Chief Minister of Sarawak, Yang Amat Berhormat Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Johari Tun Abang Haji Openg who was accompanied by Sarawak's Minister of Tourism, Arts & Culture and Minister of Youth & Sports, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
